It is a little controversial to say 2016 was great in these parts, but for me, professionally, it was an amazing year. I walked-through and consulted on over 110 projects. 99% of my staged homes went the first week out and most of them with multiple offers. 2 of my houses didn't even make it to the Open House - but settled privately within days. Equally rewarding were my design clients where I helped many new home owners and recent transplants, including the move-ups, down-sizes and everything in between create their liveable living rooms. To all of my new clients and to all of the many, many repeat clients who keep coming back for me... Thank you !!! Happy New Year, and may 2017 be that much more!
Evolution of a space. The layout was amazing, the bones were good, the colors and details were the rage of 2007... just not so me, not so 2016. Oh so very beige! So with a lot of paint (yes it's technically a grey but it reads white), hot Schoolhouse Electric mid-century hardware, "new" retro lights from Barnlight Electric, it was good. But then with the genius addition of 3 mudroom cubbies that look like they were always there...presto, we now have an awesome 'brand-new' kitchen of our (current) dreams--still looking for suitable backsplash, and counter refurbish, but hey, it's a process. I'd like to think in a perfect world, where budgets and timelines and spouses all align, there still will be room for redesign. Where you don't have to rip out and start from scratch to more than breathe a little life into a perfectly good shape. We take what was good, we give it a little love, and we make it so much better. That's why, we redesign.

People frequently say to me "I love your style" which I always find confusing because I really don't think I have one signature look. My rooms are approachable and lived in. They look like they have evolved over time and I think each reflects the homeowner. But as I read an article today in House Beautiful, editor Sophie Donelson summed up my approach to decorating perfectly: "It begins with a floor plan, colors, furnishings, accessories, and decorative details. But the final touches are the living and the loving". She goes on to talk about the well earned scratches and nicks and spills and the patina that comes from "years of accumulating, editing and rearranging." And then I realized. Yes. That's it! That's my style. I help people find their patina and as Ms. Donelson concludes " Earning the patina is the fun part!". I 100% agree.
Another banner year for STAGINGbyLARA! 45 stages and 50 design projects later... so yeah, I have been in my share of houses. We have explored new trends and stood by old favorites (I still love me a subway tile). I have finished up 4 kitchen renovations, chosen finishes and fixtures for several spec houses, and have provided numerous complete paint palates. It's been a fun year! Even more exciting things to come in 2016!
